Welcome to Gananoque Intermediate & Secondary School, “Home of the Trojans!” where staff are proudly committed to the success of all our students and all means all.
Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School is a school of just under 500 students in grades 7 through 12 located in the heart of the Thousand Islands. The secondary school has been here for over 50 years and boasts a rich tradition of both academic and athletic excellence along with a strong connection with the community. In 2011, the Intermediate Division was added to the school enhancing the atmosphere and enriching the school experience for all the students on their journey to a high school diploma.
The academic program at GSS promotes high standards in an atmosphere of rigorous care. We are able to provide courses in each of the pathways to support successful transitions to the world of work, apprenticeship programs, college, or university.
In addition to our standard academic programs, we are proud to offer four Specialist High Skills Major programs; Agriculture, Arts and Culture, Hospitality and Tourism, and Sport. We have our leadership Link Crew Program which is an opportunity for our senior students to provide mentoring to our grade 9 students while learning valuable leadership skills.
We are also proud to provide a large variety of bursaries and scholarships each year at graduation. We have many grads in all sectors and many in post-secondary institutions across eastern Ontario and the country who proudly call themselves Trojans forever! Once a Trojan, always a Trojan!
In addition, we have a dynamic and innovative Intermediate Division for our grade 7 & 8 students. While separated in their own area of the school upstairs and on a separate lunch schedule, the intermediate students benefit from having access to all that the secondary school has to offer in terms of facilities.
We have a large computer lab, three laptop carts, and full wireless coverage. We have two dedicated fitness rooms with over $25 000 worth of equipment along with a large multi-purpose break-out room. We also have a full commercial kitchen for our hospitality program. Our school building is spacious, safe, welcoming and well-maintained.
The staff at GISS know that life beyond high school in the 21st century presents challenges that require skills in the areas of critical thinking, collaboration, organization, responsibility and communication. We are committed to providing direction in these areas while providing several varied opportunities through real world learning.
