Co-operative Education

Co-operative education programs offer students an excellent way of expanding their interests and exploring their career options. By integrating classroom learning with practical experience in the workplace, students are better prepared to make the transition from high school to work, apprenticeship programs, college and/or university.

Students can select Co-operative Education courses as part of their secondary program during the regular course selection process. Students receive credit based on classroom work as well as their performance in the work placement.

By participating in on-site work activities, students benefit by learning to make informed decisions about potential career choices. Co-operative education students also gain valuable job preparation skills during the in-class portion of the course. Overall, students foster connections between in-school learning and lifelong learning.

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program enables students in Grade 11 and 12 to complete their high school diploma while starting their apprenticeship training. Students earn credits for their workplace experience in the apprenticeship program, and the time they spend in the placement counts towards their apprenticeship training requirement.

All secondary schools in the Upper Canada District School Board offer Co-operative Education programs. For further information about Co-operative Education opportunities, contact a local high school.
